Who is this Course for?
Maybe you don’t identify as a “Liminal Creep,” but let me explain why I do—and why I’m committed to transcending it.
From Liminal Creep to Whole Adept: Transformation Made Possible by APTITUDE
You know the Creep archetype. A touch of loving self-deprecation inspired by Radiohead, because I am desperate to ”have the perfect body” and “perfect soul” so I can finally “belong here.” It’s self-deprecating, yes, but truly the Liminal Creep’s primary flaw is simply believing that they aren’t already perfect—aren’t Whole—exactly as they already are.
You know this archetype—because you’ve been the Creep.
The one whose insight is sharp enough to cut themself on it, but whose life is a dull mess. The one who’s glimpsed enlightenment at 3AM in a haze of nicotine and caffeine but who can’t seem to hold a job. The one who either rails against the system or dissolves, unable to convince themself that matter is what matters.
The Liminal Creep knows they have a Buddha nature, but sometimes forgets their social security number.
The Whole Adept, on the other hand, has integrated. They are neither a guru nor a dropout, neither a zealot nor a nihilist. They are awake and effective. Mystical and grounded. They are in radical self-ownership, capable of playing the game without the game playing them.
| Liminal Creep | Whole Adept |
|---|---|
| External Locus of Control | Self-efficacious |
| Sense of life being deterministic, whether it is biologically, culturally, or due simply to luck | Knows their capacity for Free Will, and understands True Will as alignment with Source |
| Wants a pain- and friction-free life | Accepts the inevitability of pain and friction with equanimity |
| Struggles with a diagnosis of mental illness | Understands they have a mystic's gifts |
| Believes they are harmful just by existing | Loves every part of themself |
| Driven by shame | Full of self-love and Radical Acceptance |
| Self-aggrandizing "lone gunman" or dissolving self completely as a "cultist" | Connects healthily with others while preserving a high opinion of their unique individuated gifts |
| Primarily has internet friends | Values embodied community (but may have a Digital Sangha too) |
| Either sabotages and limits self to fit society's mold, or rebels against norms to their own detriment | Self-confident enough to know their own unique value while also capable of balanced compromise for belonging |
| Financial troubles due to difficulty playing society's games | Secure life that affords time for socializing and self-expression |
| Blows up their life by not taking their psychiatric medications | Is willing to pragmatically compromise with default reality |
| "Man child" tendencies | Mature, responsible, reliable, secure |
| Unskillful reflexive antagonism toward authority and hierarchy | Can lead effectively and be led graciously in power-with relationships |
| Clings to High Vibration and fears and suppresses the shadow | Integrates, accepts and embraces the whole of human experience |
| Elitist | Appreciative of all perspectives |
| Flippancy and glibness | Trickster-ishness wielded to improve their surroundings |
| Feels they "should" be taking better care of their health and behaving more virtuously | Is intrinsically motivated to care for their full human vessel, e.g. meditating, exercising, socializing, eating well, and drinking water |
APTITUDE is the bridge between Creep and Adept. It takes you from self-sabotage to self-mastery. From disempowered rebellion to power-with, from alienation to genuine belonging. It teaches you how to swim in the mystical without drowning in psychosis.
More than anything else, to me, Liminal Creeps represent an untapped resource of—typically neurodivergent—seekers who are ready to be finders. Cast-aside shamans who I hope can co-lead ourselves through the APTITUDE framework toward re-integration with our meatspace communities. Because it’s only by being deeply embedded in our physical communities that our awakened insights can be of service to the polycrisis—the cascading emergencies we’re faced with as a civilization. For example, the climate, political, inequality, loneliness, and meaning crises.
There are more. In fact, I’m sure you have one you care about above all others. One that keeps you up at night. APTITUDE aims to impart the internal resources that allow you to maximally impact the issues that leave you most concerned.
After all, the list of crises goes on and on, and it clearly demands that each of us contribute our unique something. To weave our one thread back into the tapestry and help with the collective healing.
